In a unique and serene celebration ahead of the International Day of Yoga 2025, the Consulate General of India in Guangzhou organised a special ‘Yoga on Ferry’ session on June 20th, 2025. This distinctive event took place on the iconic Pearl River in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China, in collaboration with the cooperation of prominent diaspora representative Shri Puran L. Jeswani.

The session was organised as part of the build-up to #InternationalDayofYoga2025 and beautifully symbolised the concept of the flow of life, reflecting how yoga connects individuals to their inner selves and to the world around them. It also showcased the boundless cultural exchanges between India and China, strengthening people-to-people ties through the universal language of yoga. The event was in perfect harmony with this year’s global theme – ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’ – emphasising the holistic approach of yoga towards physical, mental, and environmental well-being.

The peaceful ferry ride turned into a floating yoga studio, witnessing enthusiastic participation from Chinese yoga practitioners and members of the Indian diaspora in Guangzhou. Participants practised asanas together while surrounded by the gentle waves and the cityscape, creating a unique atmosphere of unity, health, and mindfulness.

I feel truly honoured to have been appreciated by the Consul General of India, Shri Shambhu Hakki, for contributing to this meaningful initiative, and to have the event highlighted on his media handle. Such recognition further motivates me to continue working towards fostering cultural harmony and promoting India’s heritage in our host country.
